Tis the season to serve 1st YOU, then others

In the following days and weeks, many of us will be doing for others even though we may be empty of time, energy, and/or money. We may feel obliged to give “enough” . . . such that our gift is commensurate in thought, creativity, cost, and “FAME” wins the competition to give the BEST gift.

If you’re nodding your head with recognition of this annually recurring theme, I hereby proclaim that YOU are EXEMPT from the fracas. I’m not suggesting that you not give ANY gifts . . . instead, I am encouraging you to give yourself the first gift with your attention to your Spiritual, Mental, and physical well being. What is this gift that NO ONE else is likely to give you . . .? This gift honors who you are and what you stand for. This gift offers inner peace and rejuvenation. This gift to yourself gives you the space you need in order to weather, with confidence and joy, the “STORM” – MAELSTROM? which may have traditionally has cast a pall which has cause a forgetting of the reason for the season.

Let go . . . and LET’S GO! this holiday season by intentionally reserving a little slice of time at the beginning of each day for practicing our Spiritual (Meditate/Pray), Mental (Read/Listen to podcast), Emotional (Love, laugh, play), and physical (exercise, eat a healthy meal.

First thing EVERY day . . . do this, and you will amaze yourself with your own generosity to gifting others . . . effortlessly.

Here’s the REAL gift of this post: It’s not just for the Holidays . . . On January 2, simply resolve to continue caring for yourself in this way each and every day, and I believe your overall quality of life will improve markedly.

AND your generosity of gift giving will be effortless and more from your heart.

I’ll close this with an affirmation from Deepak Chopra’s The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

The Law of Giving

I will put the law of Giving into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:

  1. Wherever I go, and whoever I encounter, I will bring them a gift. The gift may be a compliment, a flower, or a prayer. Today, I will give something to everyone I come in contact with, and so I will begin the process of circulating joy, wealth, and affluence in my life and in the lives of others.
  2. Today I will gratefully receive all the gifts that life has to offer me. I will receive the gifts of nature: sunlight and the sound of birds singing, or spring showers or the first snow of winter. I will also be open to receiving from others, whether it be in the form of a material gift, ,money, a compliment, or a prayer.
  3. I will make a commitment to keep wealth circulating in my life by giving and receiving life’s most precious gifts: the gifts of caring, affection, appreciation, and love. Each time I meet someone, I will silently wish them happiness, joy, and laughter.”

Blessings to you from Owen Hollow!
