Stay ON your wire – Quit worrying

“Aerialist Nik Wallenda completed a tightrope walk that took him a quarter mile over the Little Colorado River Gorge in northeastern Arizona”

I didn’t watch it live – On purpose – Because I didn’t want to see him fail.

If he were to fail, every one of the MILLIONS of people watching would witness a senseless death.

The Discovery Channel was boasting the best ratings EVER for their channel even as this brave man (or fool) traversed this 1500 foot chasm chanting prayers to God.

I DID watch as soon as I knew he completed his stroll across the wire.

I wanted to hear what he would have to say about the journey.

Nik gave a LOT of credit to God for allowing him to survive such a risky endeavor . . . ¬†and then he spoke a bit about his lineage and training. Tightrope walking is not only in his blood . . . It’s what he lives and breathes.

When asked what he would do if he were to lose his footing or a gust of wind were to knock him off balance, he very confidently reminded everyone that the very wire on which he was walking was his best safety net . . . In the event he were to fall, he would surely grab the wire and save himself from an ugly (and very publicly displayed) demise.

Had he PRACTICED saving himself in a fall?

Nik responded: “I have trained my whole life to stay ON the wire . . . not to fall off.”

This one one of those “What you focus on EXPANDS” moments for me.

Thinking this way (and training this way) separates the men from the boys, the mighty from the meek, the great from the good.

It’s this line of thinking that drives home the point that once you know how to talk a tightrope, it doesn’t matter whether it’s 2 feet off the ground or 200 feet off the ground . . . Once you learn how to swim, does it matter if you’re in 5 feet of water or 50?

Wanna be GREAT?

Train to stay ON your wire and stop worrying about falling off.

Don’t forget to bring God along for the ride.

Thank you for MANY unexpected lessons learned by your tomfoolery on the highwire.

How will your performance improve as you FOCUS?
