Good Morning!
The “snow” in Nashville was exciting yesterday. Even though it didn’t accumulate, it created quite a stir and boosted the economy a bit as folks flocked to the grocery “just in case”.
We’re seldom prepared for snow because we never know if the weather predictors are telling the truth 🙂
I think there’s an atmospheric moving wall that crosses TN West to east . . . If that line leans North, no snow . . . Leaning South brings blizzard.
How often are we (personally & collectively) prepared for what’s coming at us day in and day out? Seems we have our own, unpredictable atmospheric walls in our personal and business environments, and much of our human experience depends on which way the line leans . . . EVERYTHING is ALWAYS moving and transforming.
So . . . If we are going to prepare for something, why not be prepared to be surprised? . . . and as the Oscar Wilde said: “Life is too important to be taken seriously”
This past Friday, I offered a workshop to anyone who cared to come (mostly REALTORS but anyone was welcome). This was a 3 hour session entitled “Life Rhythm – Finding balance of LIVE – Work – Play”
A great group of folks showed up. I always joke about the truth that the people who most need a workshop like this seldom show up. We had a fantastic session . . . considered long range vision and goals (10 years from now) . . . worked a bit on determining what really MATTERS in our lives (our 20%) . . . and then zoomed in to what we’re going to accomplish in the next 12 months . . . and we continued to spiral in to monthly, weekly, and daily rhythm of planning . . . and stressed the importance of ACCOUNTABILITY!
The goal is to start living a life ON PURPOSE – a life that aligns with a clear VISION of where we’d like to be 10 years from now.
This is BIG stuff for many people, especially those who have worked and worked their entire lives developing “goals” and doing complicated “Business Strategic Plans” end of each year . . . and not necessarily moving themselves FORWARD towards ANYTHING of significance.
I Believe clarity of vision and a healthy rhythm (daily, weekly, monthly, annually ritual) is the real ticket to being prepared to be surprised.
At the end of the workshop, I asked the participants what they thought. The first answer I heard was:
“I’ve had a class like this before . . . and it was great just as this one was . . . but I never changed what I was doing.”
Isn’t that the definition of insanity – Doing the same things and expecting different results?
We talked for a while about this . . . That even something as important as finding personal vision clarity and committing to a self-discipline to learn a new life rhythm, often doesn’t survive more than a couple of months (or weeks) beyond the “class”.
Just as New Years Resolutions are born to be broken, a whole new way of living (even if it is organic to the core) often fizzles when we step back into the fray. Accountability
I continue to offer these workshops periodically because I know that the 20/80 principle always applies . . . 20% of the people who participate will leave the room committed to making positive change in their lives, and they will find accountability partners and establish a new, healthy rhythm in their lives.
I also know that the 20/80 principle applies to those folks . . . 20% of them will “Stay on the wagon” and make lasting, long term, life changing change in their life rhythm.
So . . . Keep on attending classes like this . . . as many have said before: “when the student is ready, the teacher will come”
Whenever it starts is the right time . . .
I’m just sayin’
Best,
b
