No! We did not fly anywhere this Spring Break . . . We DROVE from Nashville to Virginia to Potomac Maryland . . . Fiddled around in Washington DC a few days . . . meandered up to Philadelphia and then Marathoned our way back to Nashville.
In all of those wanderings we spent some good quality time with cousins and Grandparents and good friends . . . oh! and our 2 Tennessee Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker . . . and we enjoyed each other during those “away from the grind” 8 days.
Today, we are back in the fray – Re-energized and excited about diving into our new SPRING routine.
While in Washington, we took advantage of an opportunity I had heard of but never really understood the significance. Our State Senators and their staffs will welcome with open arms any Tennesseans visiting Washington.
I called Bob Corker’s DC office a few weeks ago and spoke with Whitney who very efficiently scheduled us for a Capital Tour upon our arrival Monday 3/14 including a “senate gallery pass”. As it happened, we were in the room as Senators John McCain & Joe Leiberman presented their “Libya No-fly Zone” arguments.
We and Our daughters were able to witness the legislative process in action . . . and then see the events unfold in the days following.
Tuesday morning, we attended “The Tennessee Tuesday Breakfast” along with a small group of other visiting Tennesseans and were able to see Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker in a small gathering, hear them speak, shake their hands, and take a picture with them.
This has been an unforgettable experience for all of us, and we are very appreciative of the commitment of our state Senators to serve the best interests of Tennesseeans and the United States of America.
Next time you’re in Washington, be sure to stop by and see you State Senators 🙂
We capped off the week with Jessica jumping at an opportunity for a FREE airplane ride yesterday as “Young Eagles” program # Lebanon, TN municipal Airport offered rides to young people between the ages of 8-18 . . . Just to stir up any interest there might be in being a future pilot.
Summing up the week leaves with me a “Moral of the Story”
ESPECIALLY in these times of uncertainty, I believe THE essential ingredient to living a fulfilling life is to always keep one eye open and an ear to the ground for the chance for new and interesting experiences and to seize each of these opportunities as they come along.
CHOOSE to ENGAGE fully!
Don’t let the world pass ya by.
There are SO many great ways to get the most out of every moment and meet new people, but we don’t benefit from them unless we opt in.
Just sayin’
Hope you have a great week!
