There sure seem to be a LOT of “reasons to WORRY.
Everyone has worry and stress and drama, and we all have multiple choices every minute of every day as to how we choose to participate in this anxiety producing calamity.
Do you join them at the coffee pot, or do you risk being “selfish” with yourself and find more productive use of your time and karmic energy?
I’ll take the latter and assume the risk that they’ll talk about me while I’m away 🙂
In a session at yesterday’s REBarCamp Nashville, the word eustress popped into my mind. It’s one of my favorite words that I thought I made up myself but probably didn’t because wiki has a nice definition here:
Eustress is a term coined by endocrinologist Hans Selye which is defined in the model of Richard Lazarus (1974) as stress that is healthy, or gives one a feeling of fulfillment or other positive feelings. Eustress is a process of exploring potential gains.
Kinda the opposite of distress.
Y’see “Stress” has gotten a bad rap because most folks view it in the negative (dis) light . . . I believe there’s real value in practice more positive (eu) stress . . . It could change the world as we know it for the better 🙂
So . . . How to carry this forward?
Scare yourself every day by pushing yourself to the edges (and beyond) of your comfort zone.
FOCUS such that every little thing you do is something that you do INTENTIONALLY – ON PURPOSE . . . all the while embracing SURPRISE as your results vary.
It is in this positive flow way that we find fulfillment and success.
Put on blinder to all things petty and negative . . . Life’s too short. When people attempt to suck you into the drama, move a different direction (FORWARD) to flow with the positive momentum you cultivate every day.
Constantly re-create yourself . . . Keep the tension (eustress) . . . it’s what makes your music.
STUDY everything you do and all interactions, assess, and respond accordingly.
Deliberately and persistently practice this intentional behavior . . .
and smile 🙂 and hug more . . .
Now THAT’s what we mean by “eustress”
Are you IN?
Hope so . . .
