How do you know how to build a business model and develop a marketing strategy that’ll result in attracting the “Right People” . . . and enough of these right people to be profitable?

Simple as pie . . . ASK them!

“BUT” (You quip) “How can I ASK them if I don’t know WHO or WHERE they ARE?”

I believe you already DO know who and where they are . . .

Right under your nose . . . Inside that little machine you are using to read this blog post – embedded as “Friends” and “Connections” in email, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, FourSquare . . .

and odds are good that you’re not optimizing the power of all of that hidden gold through (unintentional) neglect.

The gold is all of the people you already know.

The optimizer is a “Database” (most folks just cringed seeing that word “Database”)

The myth is that building and maintaining a database takes a LOT of work.

Not so . . .

It only requires INTENTIONAL attention over time.

3 simple steps:

  1. Pick your platform – Where will this database reside? It will ONLY “work” if you USE it EVERY day.  (I use Gmail contacts)
  2. Add and organize your contacts – Create appropriate categories, so you can target appropriate messages to different people
  3. Compose and orchestrate your rhythm – Timely, frequent, appropriate and relevant, communication consistently and persistently over time
Begin with the 5 most powerful people in your life. These are the people you KNOW as being the MOST influential (on you) people in your world.
Move out from there . . .
100-200 “Inner Circle” – Loyal Friends, Family, current and Prior customers
150-225 “Allied Partners” – Local Business Leverage
800ish “Network Acquaintences” – People you know
250-500 “Colleagues” (Local and Out of Area)
There’s no need to take a week (or day) off to “Organize the database” . . . Just start it . . . and every time you think of, interact with, meet – add them and all of their contact information and assign them to the appropriate group.
and begin your song (Rhythm) . . .
