It’s not the market’s fault

In every conceivable market condition, there are people who thrive.

The “Real” answer to the question: “How’s the market?” should be: “It’s what I choose it to be.”

If you think it’s slowing . . . it is . . . even as other sales Professionals are ROCKING lots of sales.

If you think it’s a CRAZY busy market, you’re right . . . while some other folks are nearing desperation as they flounder in doldrums.

Of course, we all want to be consistently productive, so we persistently do our work of Generating Leads – Converting the Leads to Customers/Clients – and servicing them impeccably throughout the process – and orchestrating a closing with smiles all around.

Here’s the rub . . . The market is always moving – Transforming – Metamorphosing . . . so if we continue to do the same thing each and every day with our nose to the grindstone unaware of the ground shifting underneath us, we wake up one morning to find ourselves in those doldrums . . . and we freak out and grieve the passing of our exhilarating success.

Like it or not, we’re likely going to have to work our way through the 5 stages of grief AKA the Kübler-Ross model

Denial – NOOOOOOO! This can’t be happening. If I work harder and longer hours, I can fix this.

Anger – Why can’t THEY – those STUPID other people do what we want (NEED) them to do NOW? It’s THEIR fault I have more bills than money this month.

Bargaining – I KNOW I can rationalize my way through this without having to CHANGE. In fact, I’m going to find lots of other people having the same experience so we can conspire to make things better. We will form a group/club and PROTEST til we can force everyone else to join our cause to fix this mess.

Depression and acceptance – What we’re doing isn’t working! The more we struggle the behinder we get because there are other people THRIVING while we are wallowing in our sorrow and panic. THIS is the END . . . UNLESS . . . I adapt . . . Yep! It’s time to quit fighting and accept the oh-so-poignant truth that my commitment to my way has made me a dinosaur.

We all do this!

Some folks work through this cycle faster than others.

Some folks quit!

We really do get to choose to thrive regardless of market conditions . . . or not!
